5 Foods That Make You Sleepy

As we all know by now, it is very important what types of foods you are eating. However, equally important is the time you are eating certain foods. We do not want to be eating all the right foods at completely the wrong times. Earlier in the day we want foods that energize and revitalize our bodies. And these are the opposite of what we want before bed.
I believe it is important to know which foods we can snack on at night that will aid in making us sleepy. These can be highly beneficial if eaten in the right amounts and at the right times.
Let us have a look at a few foods this week that can make us feel sleepy and why. Pistachios in a small amount are packed with protein, vitamin B6 and magnesium, all of which aid to get better sleep. Always remember though, do not overdo it or the excess calories may have an adverse effect. Prunes are another food full of vitamin B6, calcium and magnesium, assisting in making melatonin which is a hormone that regulates sleep. Herbal tea is excellent for calming nerves as well as keeping you hydrated and soothing your stomach. Especially chamomile and ginger tea. I am sure many of us have given our babies or toddlers chamomile tea and the principle is much the same. A surprising food that can aid in making you sleepy is oatmeal. It can trigger your insulin production, raising your blood sugar levels naturally, therefore making you sleepy. Oats are also rich in melatonin which assists in regulating your bodies sleep patterns and relaxes the body. And lastly, such a reliable food for many reasons, almonds. Almonds contain tryptophan and magnesium, which both help in relaxing muscles and nerves.
Now always remember, much like everything in life, all these recommendations are meant to be taken in moderation. It will prove counter productive eating 3 bowls of oats or a giant bag of pistachios before bed. Everything must be done in moderation to give our bodies and minds just what we need, no more, no less. So try some of these tips, and always remember to supplement everything with a good clean eating plan. Sleep well ladies!
